Anonymous asked underfloorboards:What are your brush settings for the Populi and Rupoli drawings? They’re amazing @_@
Populi and Rupoli, done in the same style vein as Croculing and its evolutionary chain, but these were drawn in the delirious final stretch of an all-nighter so they’re chunky and sketchy. But I got their personalities down, which is probably all that matters. :|
Fun fact Rupoli is a character I hold near and dear to my heart because he first came to me in a dream. I was lost in a huge forest at dark, and the trees were black and the sky was black and the moon was an enormous white saucer that was just coming up over the horizon and outshining the stars. In the dream he was soaking wet with sweat and sea water and he stank terribly, but I felt safe so I followed him. He had bat wings and was black and purple and green and his eyes glowed and he was almost as big as a pony.
He took me to a cliff that poked out over a giant ocean that was as black as the sky and we sat there for a while in the awful heat enjoying each other’s company and watching the fog roll out of the forest.
It was a good dream and he is a good dog, even if he’s imaginary.
Blew off some time doing this. The original template is right here.
Aaand bringing it to the art blog just to keep some tags fresh.
Scarecro, the Withered Pokemon, Grass-Ghost
Kinda looks more Ghost than Grass, but eh. ~*THE DESIGN IS SYMBOLIC*~ There’s a pun off the flower name “crocus” because it sounds like “to croak” which is slang for dying, ha ha ha…fuck. Also, the unbloomed head is supposed to reference a komusō helmet but I think I flopped a little on that reference, bluh.
“Lush Form” is on the right; when a Scarecro has absorbed enough resources, like life energy or water, it can transform to reach it’s full offensive potential. However, to do that, it needs to vent out any energy burnoff, so the “bud” head opens up like how a flower would bloom, revealing the spirit within.
This may be too frightening for a fakemon. :|
Anyway, Crocuffin. Or Crocugeist. Kinda leaning towards Crocugeist. This is getting more Children of the Corn with every incarnation I draw.
Anyway, at the second stage of evolution, Crocugeist (yeah, sticking with it) shows off its signature Leech Life/Giga Drain ability, where, when it’s sufficiently “fed”, the little purple leaf blossoms on its body bloom. When it’s hungry, they begin to wither.
Croculing - Sleeping Bulb Pokemon
Ghost-Grass
Croculings are born when a lost spirit becomes trapped within plant bulbs in the ground. They bloom under the soil, emerging withered and dry. In order to sustain themselves, they must drain life energy from other Pokemon or humans. Despite their fragile appearance, they are quite resilient and tough to damage in a fight.
Croculings levitate and usually have a random assortment of root-like “limbs” they use to grasp to others.
Doodlin’, realized this wasn’t going to go anywhere. I might start drawing my monsters again. This one is the Bagaroc King.
